School safety audits and proposing safety improvements are at the core of Santa Monica Families for Safe Streets advocacy strategy.

A school captain works with Santa Monica Families for Safe Streets parent-experts  to conduct the audit using our radar speed detector, measuring wheel, StreetMix, and knowledge of the National Association of City Transportation Officials Urban Streets Design Guide and Designing Streets for Kids.

Once we have a dozen or so families join from a single school, we will work with those families to identify a school captain who will serve as a point of contact for the school.
